Bar food review - Bob Trollop (Newcastle)

Sept 2008 - On a recent visit to Newcastle we came upon Sandhill on the Quayside just below the iconic Tyne Bridge, a series of 16th Century buildings including Betty Surtees House (worth a visit) and next door Bob Trollop and The Red House. The latter two buildings are joined by a covered alleyway, and while the Red House serves meat dishes Bob Trollop provides a vegetarian/vegan only menu. Bob Trollop's interior is eccentric a bit like a historic drama or Harry Potter film set and quite dimly lit, however menu provides illumination with the range of options. The kitchens are guaranteed to provide 100% vegetarian food including the preparation and the pub was the winner of vegetarian pub of the year 2000. The menu offers starters, burgers and grills, light bites, kids meals, main dishes and desserts all at very reasonable prices, a sample of the menu option includes;

Lentil & vegetable burger, in a bap with chips and salad £3.50

Chilli Non Carne with rice & tortilla chips £3.95

Vegetable nut roast with potatoes & vegetables £4.75

Bangers & Mash £3.95

Good vegetarian/vegan food in a central location and at very good prices.
