The Vegetarian Cycling & Athletic Club
Established 1888

Home Page

We are a national club including runners, cyclists, triathletes & walkers. The Club, whose primary activities are competitive cycling and athletics, also welcomes vegetarians and vegans from other sports or physical activities. Second claim members are most welcome.

Over our 100+ year history there have been many champion racing cyclists and athletes of a high standard. If you are a keen racing cyclist or athlete please join us. By competing for the club at any standard you will help to draw the public's attention to our cause of a more humane society. Let us put an end to the myth that meat is necessary for either health or sporting achievement, by disproving it again and again.

The Club is also affiliated to The Vegetarian Society

Cycling

The Club organises its own open time trials each year. Over the course of the year the Cycling Secretary awards separate club titles, for men and women, in time trials over distances of 10, 25 and 50 miles and an all-rounder title for the best performance over distances 50 & 100 miles and 12 hours. Club best performances notified to the cycling secretary during the year can be achieved on any certified course. The Club is also keen to support members competing in other disciplines including: mountain bike, cyclocross, road and track racing. The Club is also affiliated to other cycling organizations.

Running

The London Marathon usually has 15-20 members participating and there are many other events with around five members. Members can be identified by wearing the Club vest, colours amber and emerald green, available from the Secretary. A spreadsheet is maintained of all member's times for events, allowing the fastest times by age category over the year to be documented and announced at the Club's AGM in November. The veteran age bands are in 10 year increments and start at 40 for both sexes.

VC&AC is affiliated to the following organisations

British Cycling, Cycling Time Trials, Road records Association, South of England Athletics Association, (includes affiliation to English Cross Country Association, Fell Runners Association, UK Athletics), England Athletics and the British Triathlon Association.
